Two Kinds of Leaders
What Makes This Site Different?
Why Should You Believe Me?
Using This Site to Your Benefit

There are two kinds of leaders:

  1. Those who believe there is little connection between their personal development, relationship skills and their leadership effectiveness
  2. Those who know that leadership integrity and effectiveness directly depends on personal development and relationship skills

If you are the first kind of leader, God help you and those you lead! If you are the second kind of leader, you have come to a website unlike any you have ever seen!

What makes this site so different?

The Willingness Works® website addresses personal, relationship, leadership and integrity development as an integrated whole!

Your best possible leadership development path revolves around three intimately connected truths:

  1. There is one issue that ties together all personal, relationship, social, business, political and global issues! That issue is lack of integrity.
  2. Deal with integrity-enhancement head-on and you gain immeasurable power and effectiveness in all the above realms, all at the same time!
  3. The core skill sets required for being a truly effective leader are the same ones required for personal authenticity, expression and power, and for building collaborative, durable relationships!

Talk about high leverage – you just can’t get more efficient than this when it comes to managing your development as a leader.

Why Should You Believe Me?

The most challenging problems in all organizations, agencies and businesses are caused by insufficent integrity, self-responsibility and/or relationship intelligence.

The more integrious, self-responsible and relationship intelligent an organizational climate is, the higher the morale will be, the happier the climate will be and the more sustainable the organization will be. The competitive advantage in the 21st century marketplace is held by organizations, agencies and businesses whose climate inspires its executives, employees, vendors and those it serves into greater satisfaction and loyalty. This inspiration requires a deeper level of psychospiritual integrity, self-responsibility and relationship intelligence than has ever before been necessary.

This climate is created through leaders and management role-modeling these qualities, and through providing ways for employees to learn to do the same. Willingness Works® provides both the conceptual road map and the practical skill sets for developing integrity, self-responsibility and relationship intelligence in organizations, agencies, institutions, businesses and communities.

To paraphrase Gandhi, we must become the change we want to see in our educational institutions, businesses, governments, and diplomatic efforts. The time has come when executives, administrators, political leaders, other influential leaders or philanthropists, and diplomats recognize that how systems function is but a reflection of how individuals function. Without this understanding, the solutions you develop and support will merely be Band-Aids® that control symptoms rather than solutions that address issues at root cause.

It is possible to envision and help bring about deep change only to the extent that you understand what it means to live in a state of psychospiritual integrity, and live that way yourself. Just as children learn more from what their parents role-model than from what they say or from the rules they create, the same is true of you with those you collaborate with and serve.

The Willingness Works® website provides you with a framework that can assist you in deepening your own psychospiritual integrity so that you can direct, lead, influence or negotiate in a more effective way than ever before!

My name is David Gruder, Ph.D. My doctorate is in clinical psychology with a secondary emphasis in organizational development and conflict resolution. For almost three decades, I have provided organizational analyses, staff training, team development and executive mentoring in the areas of personal, relationship and leadership integrity. I have consulted to executives, administrators and leaders on three continents for almost three decades, and I remain available for consultations and mentoring on a limited basis, as my speaking, training and writing schedule allows.

My qualifications are unusual in the business world in that I am California licensed as both a Psychologist (PSY9266) and a Marriage & Family Therapist (MFT18889). For my brief bio, and for words of praise, click here. I am retained precisely because what I provide is outside the box of training-as-usual.

By the late 1990s, my speaking, training and consulting schedule had grown the point where I was out of town too much of the time to ethically continue to maintain a private practice. Imagine what it would have been like to have to say to my clients, "Would you put that personal, relationship or company crisis on hold for the next two weeks until I come back, and, oh, by the way I'll be gone again the week after I get back." So, after twenty years as a psychotherapist and leadership coach, I closed my my full-time, full-fee, waiting list private practice (it was even featured in a leading practice-building magazine!) in order to shift full time into speaking, training, business consulting and writing.

What turned my speaking, training, consulting and writing into my full-time pursuit was that I became convinced leaders and their teams could benefit from receiving from seasoned psychotherapists. With my background in leadership and organizational development, and my specialized training in curriculum design and adult training methods, I realized I was one of those psychotherapists who should be providing these services.

But, I'm getting ahead of the story. During my two decades of highly successful private practice, I was fascinated with the question, "What is the difference between those who have great experiences working with helping professionals and those who seem to get nowhere no matter how hard or how long they try?" My interest in this goes all the way back to my doctoral program in the late seventies and early eighties. So, I have now been exploring this question for a quarter of a century.

This question gradually refined itself into the following form: Why are some people from unusually damaged backgrounds highly responsive to personal and relationship development facilitation while some others from relatively garden-variety backgrounds are extremely difficult to work with and make little progress no matter what workshops, coaching or counseling they pursue?

In 1996, I was the principal author of a book that revealed the startling answers I had learned from my clients and workshop attendees: Sensible-Self-Help: The First Road Map for the Healing Journey. That groundbreaking book won two book awards, including Colliers Mental Health Book of the Year (click here to read kudos about this book). I and my co-authors wrote this universally highly acclaimed book to help those utilizing helping professionals from psychotherapists to counselors to coaches to get the best possible results from their efforts. (This book is now out of print but you can still purchase used copies through www.amazon.com.)

The project that resulted in Sensible Self-Help continued to expand and mature even further over the last 10+ years, resulting in my latest book: The New IQ: How Integrity Intelligence Serves You, Your Relationships and Our World.

This website also provides you with unprecedented access to the latest version of this material! As far as I know, this material is a one-of-a-kind doorway, providing you and your team with the skill sets required for personal, relationship and leadership integrity.
