Website Orientation for Helping Professionals

Imagine enthusiastically looking forward to each session in your full-fee waiting-list practice because each of your clients has the understandings and tools s/he needs in order to get the most from his/her work with you.

You only have so much time during your sessions, and, thanks to the age of "managed care", you also too often have a ridiculously limited number of sessions to work with a client. You are probably so devoted to facilitating the deepest work you can during the sessions you have that there isn't enough time to also give them the psychoeducational foundation you know would be valuable for them to have:

  1. Conceptual framing about how baggage develops, how to outgrow their baggage, and how to upgrade their life skills
  2. The pPsychological skills that would benefit them to have in order for them to get the most out of working with you!

Wouldn't it be great if you had a resource you could provide to your clients that can turn them into the Savvy Highly Motivated Clients you would most enjoy working with? Wouldn't it be great to have a full practice, filled with clients who really know how to collaborate with you in the most useful way possible for them... each step of the way?

Face it: Savvy Highly Motivated Clients stay longer, work deeper, and are more rewarding to work with, than any other clients. What would it be worth to you if you could fill your case load with Savvy Highly Motivated Clients? Better yet, what if you could start doing this without spending another dime on advertising because their word-of-mouth comments about you would be so compelling that they would fill your practice without you saying a word to them?!

Remember the famous line from the movie, Jerry Maguire: "Help me help you!" How many times have you wanted to say this to your clients? Well, now you can actually provide them with a resource that will empower them to help you help them more thoroughly and enjoyably! Now you can help your clients help you succeed at providing what they came to you to get!

Why empower your clients this way? Simple. The more your clients understand what doing inner work is for, what it entails, and how to do it in the most efficient ways possible, the more enjoyable they will be to work with. The more tools your clients have for doing their inner work between sessions, the more progress they'll make with you.

Why Should You Believe Me?

My name is David Gruder, Ph.D. I am California licensed as both a Psychologist (PSY9266) and a Marriage & Family Therapist (MFT18889). For twenty years before shifting full time into speaking, training, consulting and writing, I enjoyed a thriving waiting-list private practice as a psychotherapist and leadership coach. In fact, I was written up in a leading psychology practice building magazine. (For my brief bio, and for words of praise, click here.)

Yes, that's right. In 2000, I actually closed a full-time, full-fee, managed care-free, waiting list private practice that was even featured in a leading practice-building magazine! What on earth could I have been thinking?

You see, my speaking, training and consulting schedule had grown the point where I was out of town too much of the time to ethically continue to maintain a private practice. Imagine what it would have been like to have to say to my clients, "Would you put that crisis on hold for the next two weeks until I come back, and, oh, by the way I'll be gone again the week after I get back."

What had turned my speaking, training, consulting and writing into a full-time business? The thirst that helping professionals and their clients have to get better results more enjoyably. You see, as a seasoned and successful psychotherapist and coach who loves teaching and has specialized training in curriculum design and adult training methods, I realized I could provide my fellow helping professionals like you (and, if they wish, their clients) with something that few helping professionals know how to provide, even if they have the time to provide it: the psycheducational training you and I know your clients need to in order succeed but that you freqently don't have sufficient time during sessions to provide.

But, I'm getting ahead of the story. During my two decades of highly successful private practice, I was fascinated with the question, "What is the difference between those who have great experiences working with helping professionals and those who seem to get nowhere no matter how hard or how long they try?" My interest in this goes all the way back to my doctoral program in the late seventies and early eighties. So, I have been exploring this question for a quarter of a century.

This question gradually refined itself into the following form: Why are some people from unusually damaged backgrounds highly responsive to personal and relationship development facilitation while some others from relatively garden-variety backgrounds are extremely difficult to work with and make little progress no matter what workshops, coaching or counseling they pursue?

In 1996, I was the principal author of a book that revealed the startling answers I had learned from my clients and workshop attendees: Sensible-Self-Help: The First Road Map for the Healing Journey. That groundbreaking book won two book awards, including Colliers Mental Health Book of the Year (click here to read kudos about this book). I and my co-authors wrote this universally highly acclaimed book to help those utilizing helping professionals from psychotherapists to counselors to coaches to get the best possible results from their efforts. (This book is now out of print but you can still purchase used copies through www.amazon.com.)

The project that resulted in Sensible Self-Help continued to expand and mature even further over the last 10+ years, resulting in my latest book: The New IQ: How Integrity Intelligence Serves You, Your Relationships and Our World.

This website provides you and your clients with unprecedented access to the latest version of this material! As far as I know, this is a one-of-a-kind doorway, providing your clients with little-known keys to discovering how to get the absolute most they can from the personal development coaching, counseling, psychotherapy or mentoring YOU are providing!

Allow me to share with you two of the biggest secrets my clients taught me about what helps them succeed in working with helping professionals like you:

Secret #1: Clients who get the most out of working with helping professionals have a specific set of understandings and skills. The specific understanding my clients and workshop attendees have taught me most helps them succeed is a map that reveals how psychospiritual damage occurs, what that damage has led to, and how that damage can be turned into huge gifts that boost their personal fulfillment, relationship success and ability to make a positive difference in the world. The specific skills my clients and workshop attendees have taught me they need are seven skill sets that intuitively successful self-healers spontaneously develop that enable them to get the greatest possible benefit from working with a helping professional like you. The rest of our clients need to be helped to develop on purpose the same skill sets the intuitively successful self-healers spontaneously develop!

Secret #2: Most of us helping professionals are trained as facilitators, coaches, counselors or therapists, not as curriculum developers or expert trainers. We therefore rightly focus on what we do best. We know full well that our clients will get better results from working with us if they have certain understandings and skills, but we don't have enough time during our sessions to fully offer them all these things. Plus, most of us are not trained in curriculum design or adult training techniques (I myself had to go out and get specialized training in these areas.) Because of time and training limitations, most helping professionals don't fully provide the map and skill sets they instinctively know their clients need in order to succeed, even though we know that if our clients have these things they will do their best work with us and we will have an utterly enjoyable time working with them.

Seeing to it that your clients have access to these maps and tools may be the best possible practice-building and burnout-prevention plan you could have! Better yet, I've done the work for you, so you don't have to do it yourself!
