We all have three distinct drives, from childhood all the way through adulthood. Our Three Core Drives are:
- To be our truest, most authentic self
- To enjoy deeply nourishing and rewarding connection with others and spirit
- To have positive impact in the world
Our Three Core Drives often feel at odds with each another. Can I be myself in this relationship? If I am of service in the world can I still have a rich personal or relationship life? Can I really be a good leader without having dealt with my own baggage or without being really good at co-creating collaborative relationships?
Because our Three Core Drives can be at odds with each other, people frequently focus most on one of them:
The primary quest of Self-Improvers is for personal wellbeing, self-expression, authenticity, success or even freedom. They tend not to know that they are focusing on only one-third of their complete full 3D Self™. They rarely realize that their limited definition of self creates the relationship problems they have. They rarely understand that their incomplete understanding of self is the source of their feelings of being alienated from the collective and of believing that they cannot have a real impact in making the world a better place.
The primary focus of Connectors is for relatedness and feeling creative or fulfilled through involvement with others. They, too, tend not to know that they are focusing on only one-third of their complete full 3D Self™. They rarely realize that neglecting to properly develop their Authenticity creates the relationship problems they have despite how much they want connection. They rarely understand that their incomplete understanding of self causes them to fear that attending to the needs of the collective will cause them to neglect or sacrifice the relationships that are the most important to them.
The primary purpose of Do-Gooders is to help make the world a better place. They, as well, tend not to know that they are focusing on only one-third of their complete full 3D Self™. They rarely realize how profoundly their limited definition of self prevents them from making as much positive difference in the world as they yearn to create. They tend to view personal development as being disgustingly self-centered. The rarely realize that their lack of personal development impairs the quality of the relationships they need to develop in order to make a difference in the world. Their insufficiently developed collaboration and synergy skills cause them to force their solutions on others rather than co-discover and co-create what truly serves collective highest good. So, even their notion of what serves collective highest good is distorted because of their insufficient attention to their Authenticity and Connection coire drives.
